Type of threads and their characteristics

If you want to start a sewing project, there are many different types of threads that you can use, to know the different ones, continue reading this article.

“Only threads of great quality can guarantee a good manufactured garment, that is why Grupo Denim works with vendors compromised with the quality of their products, to make sure we only deliver garments that will strictly meet our customer’s specifications”, said Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of this company.

Here are the different threads that you can find:

  • Cotton– This is the most popular thread, as it is easier to find and buy and it is manufactured in different weights, if you are getting this thread, we recommend you the mercerized one, as it is softer and the color is more consistent.
  • Polyester – Covered with cotton, the polyester thread is also known as multipurpose, it has a center made of thread which makes it stronger and elastic and it is perfect to sew natural fibers and weaves.
  • Silk – The 100% silk thread is made in a variety of colors and weights, it has a characteristic brightness that can enhance any look, it is strong and elastic and it is perfect to sew silk and wool.
  • Nylon – This is a very resistant and invisible thread, it is mainly made in two colors: transparent and smoke, and it is great for light fabrics.
  • Metallic – Metallic threads are bright colors, if you have decided to use them, keep in mind you have to take the necessary cautions with your sewing machines as these threads tend to accumulate static electricity.

“Although there are many different types of threads, it is important to only wear those of the highest quality, as this will ensure resistant seams”, added Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal about this topic.

Mexico’s government and the textile sector

Mexico’s government

How is Mexico’s government driving the textile sector?

Mexico’s economy has a positive influence thanks to the textile sector, which activity generates profits and thousands of job sources for Mexican people each year, the government is aware of this and it is why they are searching new ways to promote innovation, financing and a better level of competency on this sector.

“The textile sector has been a very important part of the economy, so it is excellent news to see how the Mexican government is working already to make the textile and clothing sectors to be more productive”, thinks Salomón Juan Marcos Villarreal, a Mexican entrepreneur and current president of Grupo Denim, a jeans manufacturer in this country.

Mexico’s government has announced the three main axes that will help them driving the textile sector to a different level, by supporting the quality, innovation and competitiveness; customs measures against the unfair competition and new financing products for the entrepreneurs on this sector, everything in order to make the textile sector increase in Mexico.

The government has also announced that Hidalgo will be the first benefited state.

Among the changes proposed by the government against the unfair competition, they will implement new measurements on prices for raw materials, the new sectoral register for the clothing and textile sectors and the pilot program about tariff issues.

The textile sector will also see other positive changes such as the hedging program for cotton purchasing, as well as reinforcement of the financing scheme to internationalize the textile products.

“Textile industry has suffered illegal trades that damage the established companies, so hopefully these new changes and measurements will help to disappear these illegal practices, which will benefit the textile companies, who are constantly creating more jobs which benefits the Mexican families”, added Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal.

Cone Denim Celebrates 125 Years Of Denim Ingenuity

Cone Denim celebrates 125 Years of denim ingenuity last week with a two-day celebration (events on April 5 and 6)  in its hometown of Greensboro, N.C.

“This is a tremendous milestone for Cone Denim and the overall heritage of American denim, says Ken Kunberger, President & CEO of International Textile Group and Cone Denim. We are so appreciative of the support and enthusiasm for Cone Denim and look forward to another century of denim leadership.”

The history of Cone Denim dates back 125 years when two brothers, Moses and Ceasar Cone, born to Bavarian immigrants, first set into motion their vision of a marketing-based textile company. The Cones purchased more than 2000 acres in Greensboro and built the first plant, Proximity, named for its close “proximity” to the cotton fields which supplied its denims. The Revolution mill was built in 1899 expanding the company’s offerings with new flannel styles. At the turn of the century the brothers embarked on what would become the largest denim plant in the world, and White Oak began operations in April 1905.

White Oak’s heritage of authenticity and innovation continue to inspire today with its re-creation of vintage selvage denim, fashioned after the constructions of the early 1900s and woven today on American Draper X-3 fly shuttle looms. Early innovations included the development of long chain indigo dyeing, denim sanforization, and Cone’s Deeptone Denim, introduced in 1936. The White Oak mill operates today as Cone Denim’s global flagship operation, serving as the creative center for new product development and innovation led by Cone® 3D, the brand’s R&D group.

Cone Denim redefines contemporary denims with new sustainable and performance characteristics including its evolving line of performance denims offering patented S-Gene® stretch, high-performance strength, moisture management and cooling properties, and blends and treatments not traditionally available in denim.

Cone Denim practices sustainable manufacturing across its global network of mills focused on energy and water conservation, alternative fuels, recycling and sustainable cotton initiatives.

“There are so many people that have contributed to their success and establishing the Cone Denim brand as the hallmark of American denim ingenuity from their founders to a century of talented employees and supportive community to their dedicated supply partners and passionate customers”, says Salomón Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim.

How to bleach your denim shorts

You probably have a pair of denim shorts that you love, but you want to give them a different look this year, well, we will share some interesting tips with you so you can bleach your shorts and make them seem as a completely different pair.

“One of the greatest advantages of clothes made of denim is that you can give them new life by bleaching them, adding destruction or different trims or even dying them in different colors, or even recycling the garments and give them new uses, that is why many people prefers this fabric”, said Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim, a jeans manufacturer in Mexico.

Here are the steps you will need to follow to bleach your denim shorts:

  1. Place an old towel under your shorts, make sure you place a bag inside of your shorts, that way denim will not absorb the bleach at the front and back parts of your garment.
  2. Pour some liquid bleach in a plastic well, do not use a metal one or the bleach will cause a chemical reaction when it touches the metal.
  3. Put on your plastic washes and put a sponge within the bleach.
  4. Use the sponge to create bleach designs over your shorts.
  5. Wash your denim shorts in a cold wash cycle; remember not to get any other garments into the wash machine.
  6. Let your denim shorts dry.
  7. If you want to create a dramatic look, you can repeat the above steps after the first wash cycle.
  8. Remember not to let the bleach for too long on your garments, or it will eat up the fibers.

“Many people is choosing denim garments over clothes made of any other materials as it allows them to make their own creations, letting them give their own styles to the clothes they wear everyday”, added Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal.

What is the Index?

Index

What is the Index in Mexico?

Index is a private body dedicated to represent the interests and needs of maquiladoras and manufacturer exporting companies in Mexico.

“Organisms like Index are a very important tool for manufacturing enterprises in Mexico, as we are always trying to get consultancies in order to export products abroad in an easy manner and it is great to have an institution like Index to help us doing this”, said Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim, a manufacturing company in Mexico.

Index represents an 80% total of the labor force of the exporting industry, which is more than 2,250,000 workers in total, who are employed in more than 1,200 exporting enterprises in more than 20 different cities in Mexico.

This shows the importance of the manufacturer industry and exporting companies for Mexico’s economy, as these enterprises create many new job sources for Mexicans, generating profits and attracting new foreign direct invest, but there are some other factors to consider maquiladoras’ industry as one of the most important for the country: it promotes the exporting Mexican industry, create development opportunities with responsibility and integrity, and collaborates with the authorities to have exportations in rule as well as promotes the employee training.

The Index national representation is supported by the local and regional representation through maquiladoras and manufacturing companies, answering to the constant modifications about the Mexican laws at its different levels, by solving any legal uncertainty for enterprises in this sector, which helps them saving operation costs.

“Index has developed their function by working hard to make sure the manufacturing and exporting companies know the regulation in productive and administrative aspects and to advise if they are complying correctly with their obligations with the Mexican government, which is of great help for enterprises like Grupo Denim to have an organization like this in Mexico that comes with information and solutions of the different topics that we are concerned about”, added Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal.
