Threads and their characteristics

Threads

Type of threads and their characteristics

If you want to start a sewing project, there are many different types of threads that you can use, to know the different ones, continue reading this article.

“Only threads of great quality can guarantee a good manufactured garment, that is why Grupo Denim works with vendors compromised with the quality of their products, to make sure we only deliver garments that will strictly meet our customer’s specifications”, said Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of this company.

Here are the different threads that you can find:

  • Cotton– This is the most popular thread, as it is easier to find and buy and it is manufactured in different weights, if you are getting this thread, we recommend you the mercerized one, as it is softer and the color is more consistent.
  • Polyester – Covered with cotton, the polyester thread is also known as multipurpose, it has a center made of thread which makes it stronger and elastic and it is perfect to sew natural fibers and weaves.
  • Silk – The 100% silk thread is made in a variety of colors and weights, it has a characteristic brightness that can enhance any look, it is strong and elastic and it is perfect to sew silk and wool.
  • Nylon – This is a very resistant and invisible thread, it is mainly made in two colors: transparent and smoke, and it is great for light fabrics.
  • Metallic – Metallic threads are bright colors, if you have decided to use them, keep in mind you have to take the necessary cautions with your sewing machines as these threads tend to accumulate static electricity.

“Although there are many different types of threads, it is important to only wear those of the highest quality, as this will ensure resistant seams”, added Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal about this topic.

Fabrics and their origin

Type of fabrics and their origin

Fabrics are made by interwoven threads, made by human labor of in a loom. Fabrics are used for many different purposes, mainly for clothes and this time we will tell you more about the most popular type of fabrics and their origin.

Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim, a jeans manufacturer company in Mexico, gave us his opinion about this topic “Fabrics are used to make accessories, furniture, clothes, covers and many more purposes, and nowadays the consumers look for more resistant fabrics that will guarantee a useful life of the products they buy for a longer time”.

Here are some of the most famous type of fabrics:

  • Silk – From China, it has been used for centuries, there are much type of silks, some of them artificially created, but originally, silk was gotten from extracting threads from worm cocoons, which makes this a very expensive type of fabric.
  • Satin – These fabrics were mainly done silk-based, but now they are done with acetate, which makes this fabric cheaper than silk.
  • Cotton – To manufacture any type of cotton fabrics, natural fibers are used, the longer those fibers are the best cotton quality they will get.
  • Denim – These type of fabrics are extremely heavy, except for the light denim fabrics, they used to be made with cotton and serge, but nowadays they have varieties of compositions such as spandex or polyester, they were used in the past for work wear, but denim is nowadays one of the most popular type of fabrics, used to create many different clothes.
  • Tulle – This fabric is silk-based or cotton-based, and it is very light, tulle is very used for wedding dresses or ball gowns.

“We use denim fabrics made with different compositions in order to create jeans that meet the specifications and quality required by our customers and their final consumers”, added Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal about this topic.

Mexico’s government and the textile sector

Mexico’s government

How is Mexico’s government driving the textile sector?

Mexico’s economy has a positive influence thanks to the textile sector, which activity generates profits and thousands of job sources for Mexican people each year, the government is aware of this and it is why they are searching new ways to promote innovation, financing and a better level of competency on this sector.

“The textile sector has been a very important part of the economy, so it is excellent news to see how the Mexican government is working already to make the textile and clothing sectors to be more productive”, thinks Salomón Juan Marcos Villarreal, a Mexican entrepreneur and current president of Grupo Denim, a jeans manufacturer in this country.

Mexico’s government has announced the three main axes that will help them driving the textile sector to a different level, by supporting the quality, innovation and competitiveness; customs measures against the unfair competition and new financing products for the entrepreneurs on this sector, everything in order to make the textile sector increase in Mexico.

The government has also announced that Hidalgo will be the first benefited state.

Among the changes proposed by the government against the unfair competition, they will implement new measurements on prices for raw materials, the new sectoral register for the clothing and textile sectors and the pilot program about tariff issues.

The textile sector will also see other positive changes such as the hedging program for cotton purchasing, as well as reinforcement of the financing scheme to internationalize the textile products.

“Textile industry has suffered illegal trades that damage the established companies, so hopefully these new changes and measurements will help to disappear these illegal practices, which will benefit the textile companies, who are constantly creating more jobs which benefits the Mexican families”, added Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal.

Denim skirts are as active as they were years ago and this type of garment is going for more.

Metallic colors will be more active in 2016, such as silver and bronze, applied in garments such as skirts, jeans, jackets and tops, combining them with pearly colors in order to give the metallic garments a softer style.

We will also see bright colors this year such as butane orange, this color, as well as the serenity and rose quartz have been included in some of the most famous runaways, as designers are trying to include these colors for as much as possible.

Bomber Jacket is another garment that is decided to be still on fashion, and the materials used for this material will be manufactured with other materials than just leather and waterproof.

Lace will be one of the main characters for 2016 trends, especially on the white color garments and dresses, adding finesse, romanticism and sensuality to the garments.

“Trends for 2016 will be influenced by the bright colors, denim will of course play an important part on the fashion rolls, as garments made of this fabric are present on all fashion trends”, said Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim, a jeans manufacturer company in Mexico.

Properties of linen

Properties of linen

Properties of linen and its different uses

Linen is a natural fabric made with the longest fibers of the linen plant, and its use dates back to thousands of years ago, this fiber has multiple uses at home and on commercial applications. Some of the main producers of linen are France, China, Belgium and Holland.

“Linen is used in many applications nowadays, mainly because it absorbs liquids really fasts, it is a comfortable fiber, and as it does not stretch out too much, it avoids a garment to look worn”, thinks Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim, a clothes manufacturer in Mexico.

Among many of the properties of linen we can find durability and abrasion resistance, as it resists twice the force of cotton, which is one of the most resistant fibers. Linen can also absorb tints easily and can be adapted to different manufactured textiles, plus it does not produce static problems.

Linen, on its natural state, can expand from a white color to a taupe one, and weave and textile products made with this fiber are easy to clean in a wash cycle or with dry processes.

Linen has many uses on the manufactured textile products for clothing and other items such as home products.

Due to the absorbance properties of linen, this is a great fiber to produce clothing, it will only feel wet after it has absorbed at least 20% of humidity, and it is also a great heat conductor, which allows the garment to disperse the heat to all of the body, and it dries really fast, which is a reason for buyers to like garments made of this fiber.

“One good advantage of linen is that it has too little elasticity, which allows garments, such as jackets, shirts, blouses, skirts, dresses and pants to keep its original shape for a longer time”, said Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal, about this fiber.

White biotechnology

White biotechnology

White biotechnology in textile processing

The development of oil based polymers began with the advent of organic chemistry in the first half of the twentieth century, and since then there was no looking back. Synthetic and petroleum products are used in dyes, fibres, and even fabrics. But the increasing environmental laws against these products and growing landfill of non-biodegradable products are leading developments in technology that are in favour of protecting and conserving nature.

White biotechnology can help achieve sustainability and protect the environment. One area in which industrial biotechnology can aid in developing environment friendly applications in the textile industry is wet processing. Enzymes are being used to provide solutions in dyeing processes since ages. The method of removing stains from woven fabrics using enzymatic starch is a well-known example of the use of white biotechnology in textile wet processing. In the 1950s microbe amylases were used for desizing processes for the first time, which are now commonly used in many textile industries.

Cellulases have replaced the otherwise pumice stone using technique of stonewashing in denims. Another important application of enzymes in textile processing is in producing anti-pilling finish, which is believed to increase the quality of the fabric. Cellulases are used in processing machines leading to synergizing action which in turn reduces fibrils and give a smooth surface. This technique is also popularly known as bio-polishing and is employed in woven and knitted fabrics all around the globe.

The president of Grupo Denim Salomón Juan Marcos Villarreal commented “Producers and end consumers in today’s world are aware of the harmful effects on ecology of the planet and recognize that petroleum and synthetic products are not inexhaustible. This necessity drove the invention of biotechnology, which incorporates replacing chemical process to biological ones. Industrial technology or white technology uses living organisms, organic substances, and chemical components of the organisms like enzymes in the production process”.

High Quality Bath Towels

How to Choose High Quality Bath Towels

The last thing you want when you step out of a luxurious bath or relaxing shower is to feel the scratchy material of a cheap towel even if it matches your bath decor.

Here are a few tips to ensure that you purchase the right kind of towels for your home.

Understand Fabric

One of the most important indicators of quality in bath towels is the type of material used. Most towels are made of cotton, but there are wide variations in quality. Egyptian cotton and Supima cotton are usually the best choices for a towel that provides you the luxury you want. These materials are also the most durable, which means they can last a long time or at least until you are ready to change your bath décor and update the towels.

The difference in cottons is in the length of the fiber. Egyptian has the longest fiber, which contributes to the soft, plush feel that you enjoy wrapping around you. Supima cotton is shorter but still provides softness combined with durability. Standard cotton is marketed as 100% cotton and has the least amount of softness. However, it can be durable and long lasting.

You will also want to look at the edges of a towel to determine its quality. The double turned edge is not just an attractive feature, but one that provides extra durability. These edges will be less likely to fray than one with a woven edge.

Choosing bath towels is about more than matching your bath décor or selecting a color you like. It is about knowing what makes one towel a better option than another one. To find high quality towels, you must know about your options in material, density, and absorbency as well as the price commented Salomón Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim.

Textile trade shows

Textile trade shows

Textile trade shows, a fashion network for industrial companies

Textile trade shows are made for all companies that design, develop and make products for textile sectors (garments, fabrics, machinery, etc…). Designers, engineers, production managers, purchasing managers and directors meet at this show to know or see the most updated services for the textile industry. Every company interested in improving its production must attend these shows and conferences.

Usually these types of shows are not open to the public and only company representatives or the press are allowed to attend them. Trade shows were created to find new customers and/or vendors in order to increase their business; this is also a low cost way of getting sales.

It is highly recommended to plan your show schedule ahead and to obtain a map of the exposition floor and make notes of the cubicles you would like to visit. The most important is to know which companies are exposing so you don’t waste your time talking to the wrong people.

Magic Trade Show is one of the top trade shows in the US with over 40 countries represented. Sourcing at Magic is held in Las Vegas twice a year at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Magic is called the network of fashion, a link to the entire global supply chain attracting designers, brands and retailers alike to discover what they need to move their business forward.

For Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim, to be at Magic is always an opportunity to be ahead in the industry. “I always meet with the best brands in the market; I have made very good deals and also known new vendors and new machinery. My sales and design directors also attend the show to refresh their ideas and we always bring back to México new projects and techniques, that’s what makes Grupo Denim so special on the textile field”, said Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal.

Inherent versus Treated Flame Resistant Fabrics

Flame Resistant

The differences between “inherent” and “treated” flame resistant fabrics

Inherently flame resistant fibers are materials that have flame resistance built into their chemical structures.

The actual structure of the fiber itself is not flammable. For inherently flame resistant fibers, the protection is built into the fiber itself and can never be worn away or washed out. When exposed to flame, the aramid fiber swells and becomes thicker, forming a protective barrier between the heat source and the skin. This protective barrier stays supple until it cools, giving the wearer vital extra seconds of protection to escape.

The other main category is flame-retardant treated (FRT) fabrics. These materials are made he flame-resistant (FR) properties of inherently flame resistant fabrics, on the other hand, cannot be washed out or worn away, period. This means the flame-resistant properties of garments made of inherent fibers cannot be compromised. It is crucial for the wearer to know the flame-resistant protection is always there.

Laundering’s impact on flame resistance

An essential thing to keep in mind when assessing flame-resistant technologies is that inherent flame resistant properties cannot be washed out or damaged through exposure to chemicals in the workplace or laundering practices, whether at-home or commercial. FR-treated garments, however, may be damaged by chlorine bleach, the combination of hydrogen peroxide (“oxygen bleach”) with hard water, or exposure to oxidizing chemicals in the workplace.flame-resistant by the application of flame-retardant chemicals. A chemical additive in the fiber or treatment on the fabric is used to provide some level of flame retardancy. During a fire, chemically dependent fabrics rely on a chemical reaction to extinguish the flame. This reaction is triggered by the heat of the fire and the amount of time the fabric is exposed to the fire.

It is very difficult to determine whether protection has been compromised with an FRT fabric.

There are ways to test it. Unfortunately, all of these test methods are destructive  there really is no way to test a garment to determine what its current level of flame resistance or arc protection value is, without destroying the garment in a flame or arc flash test.

Grupo Denim is including Flame Resistant Fabric Treatments on special garments for multiples customers that are requiring it said Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of this company
